Are you interested in becoming an Air Force officer? Are you interested in attending North Carolina State University? If so, then feel free to sign up for Detachment 595’s Shadow Day! Det 595 hosts a Shadow Day every semester that provides the opportunity for High School juniors, seniors, and even college students to learn about what life as a cadet is like. If you are interested, read the Event Details below and make sure to Register no later than the deadline posted. Frequently Asked Questions are answered at the bottom of this page.
DET 595 SHADOW DAY
High School juniors, seniors, and In-College students interested in ROTC
Date: 25 March 2020
Timespan: 0800-1600 (8:00AM-4PM)
Location: Reynolds Coliseum for arrival & departure
Registration: Due by 11 March 2020
Shadow Day is designed to provide a first-hand experience into daily life as both a college student and AFROTC cadet. Shadows will receive introductory information about Air Force ROTC and Detachment 595. Cadets from the detachment will be available on a Q&A panel, so bring any questions with you and ask as many questions as you can during the day and at this time! Our cadets’ intent is to provide full and honest opinions, knowledge, and experiences to the shadows. Shadows will also participate in interactive Field Exercises at the end of the day.
Schedule of Events
0820-0830: Transit to Intro Brief (Location TBD)
0830-0900: Intro Briefs
0900-1015: Rotations, 20 min per station (5 mins in between to transit)

1015-1030: Cadets come pick up shadows
1030-1450: Shadows shadow Cadets – Selfie/Picture Competition
1450-1550: Ultimate Frisbee Competition @ Miller Fields
(1530-1600: Parent Q & A in AF Classroom before pickup)
1550-1600: Transit to Checkout

Important Note: Parents need to make sure to sign the Participation Waiver inside our office before dropping students off.
Directions & Parking
William Neal Reynolds Coliseum, 2411 Dunn Ave, Raleigh, NC 27606
For Parking, there is a 24-hour pay-to-park on the bottom level ONLY of the parking deck next to Reynolds (East Side). This only accepts credit/debt cards, NO CASH. It is $2 per hour with a max of $10 per day. Everywhere else requires NCSU parking passes and you WILL be ticketed if you are in a permit zone.

Question: Are parents/guardians allowed to come?
Yes! In fact, parents are encouraged to come see the campus and ROTC facilities. Parents do not follow with shadows when they go off with their cadets but stay behind for additional information from Cadre & Cadet staff.
Question: What should I bring to Shadow Day?
Camera/Phone to take pictures on campus tours
Money for food & if you want anything from NCSU Campus Store
String bag/backpack for items
Question: Is Shadow Day only for students interested in NC State?
No. NC State is the host university for Det 595, but we invite all students interested in our program, including those interested in our cross town universities (Peace University, Shaw University, Meredith University, and Saint Augustine’s University) to attend.
